Welcome to Bellingham

Bellingham is in Whatcom County in northwestern Washington and a short distance south of the Canadian border.  It faces Bellingham Bay to the west and has Mount Baker and the northern Cascades Mountain Range to the east.  With its location on the bay the Port of Bellingham provides support and services for local boat operators and ferries to Alaska, Friday Harbor and VictoriaInterstate 5 passes through Bellingham leading north to Canada and south to Seattle, Oregon and California.  The Whatcom Transit Authority has a very good map of its bus routes that will be helpful with determining driving directions in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

There are several buildings of historical and architectural interest in Bellingham including the Whatcom Museum of History and Art, the American Museum of Radio and Electricity, the Bellingham Railway Museum, the Mindport Hands-on Museum of Science and Art and the Whatcom County Historical Society.  The Heritage Flight Museum is located at Bellingham International Airport.  See also the National Register of Historic Places The Online Encyclopedia of Washington History has articles on the history of Bellingham and Whatcom County.  Use the search option for "Bellingham." 

There are many opportunities to enjoy cultural events and the arts in Bellingham with plays, concerts, films and other entertainment presented by the Bellingham Theatre Guild, the Mount Baker Theatre, the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, the Mount Baker Youth Symphony, the Bellingham Festival of Music, the Whatcom Chorale, the Jazz Project, the iDiOM Theater, the Pickford Cinema, the Bellingham Scottish Country Dancers, Mount Baker Toppers Barbershop Chorus, Tango Bellingham, and the College of Fine and Performing Arts at Western Washington University.

There is an abundance of outdoor activities to be enjoyed in and around Bellingham with boating on the bay, and trails adjacent to the bay and to the east in the Cascades.  The Mount Baker Bicycle Club has information about cycling events and activities in Bellingham and the area.  Local Hikes has information about trails in the Bellingham area. 

Bellingham has a very good selection of lodging facilities making it a very good base to explore this part of Washington state.

Transportation:

Public Transit:  Whatcom Transit Authority provides bus services throughout Bellingham and much of the surrounding area in Whatcom County.

Commercial Transportation:  Amtrak provides rail service to Vancouver in the north and to Seattle, Oregon and California to the south.  Greyhound operates long-distance bus services through Bellingham.

Airports:  Bellingham International Airport provides regional commercial passenger and general aviation services.  Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Vancouver (BC) International Airport could serve as alternate airports.
