Scenic and Historic Byways in Washington

The Strait of Juan de Fuca National Scenic Byway runs parallel to the shoreline along state route WA112 from US101, west of Port Angeles, to Neah Bay.  The Cape Flattery Tribal Scenic Byway overlaps part of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Byway.

The Mountains to Sound Greenway National Scenic Byway follows Interstate 90 between Seattle and Thorp.

The Chinook Scenic Byway is an All-American Road to the east of Olympia where it passes through Mount Rainier National Park. The byway follows state route WA410 to the east and south from Enumclaw, which is east of Lakeview on Interstate 5 and Puyallup.

The Palouse Scenic Byway runs adjacent to Pullman and is an excellent way for a leisurely discovery of the surrounding scenic and historic Palouse region.

Experience Washington - The Official Site of Washington State Tourism has a section devoted to the state's 25 official scenic byways.  This site also has a very useful interactive map to assist with travel planning and developing driving directions.

Road Conditions: The web site published by Washington's Department of Transportation is an excellent source for highway conditions.  This site should be checked before any trips, especially from late fall through winter and spring.
