Grandfather Mountain near Linville is a popular destination for people with an interest in ecology and the outdoors.

Hendersonville and Flat Rock and Mountain Treasures of McDowell County have a number of attractions of historic and scenic interest.  Transylvania County in the Blue Ridge Mountains is noted for its waterfalls and other scenic attractions.  Chimney Rock Park is another of the many outdoor attractions in this state.
