Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena (Bob Hope) Airport (BUR)

This medium-sized airport avoids the congestion of some of its larger neighbors and is worthy of consideration for ultimate destinations in the area. There is a good selection of direct flights to western and southwestern states with connections to other North American and international airports. Several of the more popular tourist attractions in the Los Angeles area are close to the airport.  The airport's official web site has flight and schedule information.  The airport also provides charter and general aviation services.

Location:  The airport is located in the northwest corner of Burbank, 3 miles/5 km from downtown Burbank. Glendale is 8 miles/13 km east of the airport and adjacent to Burbank. Pasadena is 14 miles/22 km east of the airport and adjacent to and east of Glendale. The airport is 14 miles/23 km north of downtown Los Angeles.  It is the closest airport to Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley and downtown Los Angeles.

Highway Connections: The airport is south of Interstate 5 / The Golden State Freeway and east of CA170/the Hollywood Freeway. Northbound traffic on I-5 can exit at the Buena Vista Street exit for access to the airport. Southbound traffic can use the Hollywood Way exit. These freeways connect with others in Los Angeles County and the surrounding area for efficient route planning, if not always efficient movement.

Click here for a map of Los Angeles County and a map of central Los Angeles and Orange County.

For road condition and weather reports and time zone information go to the California airports home page.

Car Rentals: A good selection of car rentals is available on and off the airport

Parking: Parking facilities are available on the airport grounds.

Web Site: The airport's official web site provides useful information that will be of benefit to travelers transiting the airport

Ground Transportation: There is an extensive range of ground transportation services - taxis, busses, rail transit, shuttles, limousines, trains - that serve the airport directly or can be connected to nearby.

There is a shuttle servicing linking the airport to downtown Burbank and the Regional Intermodal Transit Center. The rail station for Metrolink and Amtrak is close to the south entrance of the airport and connected by a shuttle service. Highway traffic can be heavy and slow at times in the Los Angeles area, so there are times when it could be worth considering using these rail systems for a more efficient way of getting from one place to another.

The City of Glendale and Santa Clarita (Valley) Transit also operate buses to and from Burbank.

Buses of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority also call at the airport. Its web site is very useful for information on bus services operated by the authority, including buses serving the airport.  The airport is served by MTA lines 94, 163, 165, 169 (weekends only) and 394 (weekdays only)

The City of Glendale operates the Beeline bus service.  Route 12 links the cities of Burbank and Glendale.

Hotels, motels and restaurants: There is a large selection of hotels, motels and restaurants near the airport, in Glendale and in surrounding communities. Several hotels and motels provide shuttle service between their facilities and the airport.

Alternate Airports:  Alternate airports in the Los Angeles and Southern California region that may be satisfactory for some travelers include Los Angeles International (LAX), Ontario (ONT)Long Beach(LGB), Oxnard (OXR), Orange County (SNA), Santa Barbara (SBA) and Bakersfield.
