The official Victorian Government tourism web site is a very good starting point for discovering Melbourne and the state of Victoria.

The Government of Victoria has pages on its web site that will be of interest to visitors in addition to topics of other government affairs.  Links with information for visitors include "About Victoria," "Arts," "Leisure and Tourism" and "Transportation."

The ParkWeb site has information about national parks and recreational opportunities in Victoria.

National Heritage Sites in Victoria include the Budj Bim National Heritage Landscape, the Eureka Stockade Gardens at Ballarat, Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park, the Glenrowan Heritage Precinct and HMVS CerberusOther heritage sites are located in Melbourne. 

The Victorian Heritage Register and Heritage Inventory have lists of Victoria's places, objects, archaeological sites and shipwrecks of historic interest.

The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) is an independent organization that has worked since 1956 to conserve and protect historical properties around the nation.  The web site has a list of the Trust's properties with descriptions and a database that can be searched using a municipality name or other criteria.

VicTrip is the state's official public transportation system.  Its web site is multi-lingual and an excellent source for planning travel by train or bus.  The site also has a collection of transportation-related links.
