Welcome to Sydney

Sydney, in New South Wales, is the commercial capital of Australia and a very popular destination in the South Pacific.  Sydney's harbor is regarded as one of the most scenic, and its Opera House overlooking the harbor is easily recognized around the world.

The Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau web site is a primary source of information for visitors to this city.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the world's most recognizable buildings and is a venue for a variety of theatrical performances in addition to opera.  It is a national heritage site and has been designated for status as a World Heritage Site. 

The First Government House Site in Sydney is also a national heritage site.  Other national and world heritage sites are located in New South Wales.

The Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales maintains properties of historic interest in Sydney and other parts of the state.

The National Trust of Australia - New South Wales administers properties that are an important part of the state's heritage including several that are located in Sydney.

Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport (SYD) is one of several major airports in Australia with international services.  It is adjacent to the north shore of Botany Bay, southeast of central Sydney. The airport offers a wide range of national and international flights and is the busiest airport in Australia.  The airport's web site provides relevant information on flights and other services.  

The Sydney Airport Media web pages offer public information announcements about the airport.  The site is intended more for business purposes but visitors may also find some articles of interest.

The Sydney Airport Rail Link connects Sydney and other communities with the airport.  Sydney Buses, operated by the State Transit Authority, provides bus transit to the Sydney airport.

Tourism New South Wales is the official web site for the state government published for travelers and travel professionals.  There is a generous range of information for planning a visit to Sydney and other parts of the state.

The State Rail Authority of New South Wales has pages on its web site for rail travel on its systems that include Countrylink, an interstate service connecting Sydney and New South Wales with the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra), Queensland and Victoria; CityRail, which operates from Sydney to surrounding suburban areas; and Sydney Transport which provides bus, rail and ferry services for the city.  This site also has a number of related links for travel and tourism in the NSW region.

Sydney Buses and Ferries are operated by the State Transit Authority to provide service to the city and surrounding area.  This site also provides information for bus transit to the Sydney airport.

The web pages for the US Consulate in Sydney have information that could be of interest to visitors from the United States.

The National Maritime Museum is located in Sydney and is Australia's premier maritime museum and one of world-class stature that will appeal to visitors with an interest in maritime history and the Australian connection.
