The Wales Tourist Board is the national web site for visitors to Wales. The British Tourist Authority web site also has a good range of information about Wales. The North Wales Tourism and the Southern Wales regional web sites are excellent sources of information. They usually provide more detail for their areas as well as local and national links. The Data Wales web site has an interesting collection of links to a wide variety of topics. The site also has a collection of useful maps. The National Eisteddfod is an annual celebration of Welsh culture and a major event in Europe. The official web site for Castles and Historic Monuments in Wales and the National Trust and Castles in Wales web sites are excellent resources for learning something of this part of the Welsh heritage. The Castles in Wales site is a superb site combining excellent photographs, text and maps to fully appreciate and locate each subject. There are also very good introductions to Welsh history and culture on the site. Wales Past is a source for archeological and historical information about Wales from the earliest times. The World Heritage Centre of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has a list of heritage sites in the United Kingdom that includes the castles of Beaumaris and Harlech, in the former principality of Gwynedd in northern Wales and the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape near Cardiff in southern Wales. The web sites for the National Museums and Galleries of Wales and the Welsh Biography Online will introduce visitors to many aspects of the history and culture of this country and its people. The National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth is a primary resource for scholarly research. The Valley and Vale Community Arts in South Wales has a collection of links to Welsh Arts Organizations on its web site. Places of historical interest are described on the Historic Wales pages on the Wales Directory web site and on the the National Botanic Garden of Wales, The web sites for the Brecon Beacons National Park, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Snowdonia National Park provide information about these scenic areas of Wales. The Countryside Council of Wales is a major conservation organization. Its web site has lists of national nature reserves and national trails that will be of interest to many visitors. The National Botanic Garden of Wales is located in Carmarthenshire. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is the UK charity working to secure a healthy environment for birds and wildlife, helping to create a better world for us all. Its web site has information about activities in Wales and a map showing the locations of reserves. The archeology pages on the National Museum and the Roman Britain web sites will appeal to visitors with an interest in the early history of Britain with its descriptions of sites related to Roman occupation in England, Scotland and Wales. The latter site has a very good map of Britain showing locations of places for which historical articles are available on the web site. Pages for specific locations have local maps. Nicolas Janberg's Structurae web site has architectural data regarding many important buildings and other structures in Wales and links to other sites with related information. The Youth Hostel Association offers low-cost accommodations in England and Wales. Many of the links on our UK and Ireland links page connect to web sites that also have information about Wales. Service information for traveling by bus, coach or train in Wales is available at the Traveline Cymru web site. Local bus service information can be found on city pages where applicable.
