The links on this page lead to web sites with a variety of information about places in Britain and Ireland and related topics of interest.  Additional links can be found on the home pages for London, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.  There are also many links to local areas within the sections for these countries.

Visit the Country Reports site for the United Kingdom and Ireland for maps and a variety of interesting particulars regarding these countries.

The British Embassy and the Irish Embassy in Washington, DC have information on their web sites of interest to travelers including passport and visa particulars and a list of consular offices.  Both sites offer a considerable amount of information about their respective countries and government agencies.  The Irish web site has a long list of links to related sites, many of which are oriented towards government and trade; however, several will also be of interest to tourists.

The Shamrock.org web site provides links to the Irish Tourist Board and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and is an excellent resource to begin travel planning for a trip to Ireland.  The British Tourist Authority web site is an excellent starting point for planning a trip to the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands.

The web site for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is an excellent source for the latest news on a wide variety of topics about the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.

The British Government's Art Collection is on display in buildings throughout the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.  This site catalogs the works in the collection.

Go to the home pages for Ireland, London, England and the Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales, and the Channel Islands for more detailed information and links.  The England home page leads to regional pages.  As we accumulate more data, other national areas will have appropriate pages added to their home pages.

Royal Family:  Information about the Royal Family and the Prince of Wales is available on their official web sites.  The Royal Collection is a companion web site devoted to the Monarch's art collection and the Queen's residences in England and Scotland.  The web site for Historic Royal Palaces has a wealth of detail on these buildings of historic and architectural importance.

The Castles of Britain and the British Castles, Stately Homes and Houses web sites are excellent resources for information about many of these historic buildings.

The National Trust (for England and Wales), the National Trust for Scotland, Historic Scotland, English Heritage and the Stately Homes web sites are excellent resources for information about many of the most important buildings in Britain that are of historical and architectural importance.

Museums and Art Galleries:  Museums Around the UK is an excellent site for discovering many places of interest.  Lists are available in alphabetical order and by county.  The Virtual Library of Museums is the prime source of museums on line around the world.  The 24 Hour Museum and Museumsworld web sites are also excellent places to search for museum and art gallery sites on the web.  

The University of Cambridge has a list of Maritime and Naval Museum in Britain and Ireland that is a excellent resource for visitors with a interest in these areas.  The Maritime Britain is another excellent web site dealing with this major element of British history.

The British Library Net is a superb internet resource published by the British Library providing access to a vast range of information on a variety of topics.

The British Association for Local History has a collection of links to a variety of sites that will be very useful for visitors with an interest in the histories of particular regions.

British Pathe is a digital news archive of film covering news, sport, social history and entertainment from 1896 to 1970.

The Gazetteer of British Place Names is a very useful web site with geographical data.  The web site can also be a helpful resource for historians and genealogists. 

The National Parks of England, Scotland and Wales web site provides an introduction to some of the most scenic areas of Britain.

The Roman Britain web site will appeal to visitors with an interest in the early history of Britain with its descriptions of sites related to Roman occupation in England, Scotland and Wales.  The site has a very good map of Britain showing locations of places for which historical articles are available on the web site.  Pages for specific locations have local maps.

The Cistercians in Yorkshire web site presents historical and other information related to this very old religious order.  The site also provides photographs of and articles about five abbeys in Yorkshire.  It also has a useful map of Britain showing the locations of abbeys and other buildings constructed by the order.

Weather:  The Meteorological Office is the official site for weather in the UK.  It also provides weather data for Ireland, Europe and other parts of the world.

Customs:  The Customs and Excise Office web site will be of interest to visitors concerned with items they may be carrying into the UK.

Postal Services:  The Post Office web site is an excellent place to obtain information about postal services within the UK.

Nature and Wildlife:  The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Wildlife Trusts are very important conservation organizations in the UK.  The British Waterways web site has information about canals and rivers.

The Woodland Trust maintains over 1,000 woods in the United Kingdom.  They offer a variety of recreational opportunities including viewing wildlife.  Many have  places of archaeological interest.

Genealogy:  Familia is a web-based directory of family history resources held in public libraries in the UK and Ireland.
