Heathrow is one of the major airports of the world with routes to a vast number of airports around the world. The airport is located 17 miles/28 km west of central London in the Borough of Hillingdon. It is adjacent to Spelthorne Borough in Surrey. The Spelthorne Borough Council web site has information on travel and tourism that could be of interest to passengers flying to or from Heathrow. The airport's web site provides flight and other information required for travel planning. Ground Transportation: There is a large selection of ground transportation services to and from Heathrow, including taxis, buses and rail services. Among the more frequently used of these services are the Underground (subway) and the bus services operated by London Transport. The Transport for London web site is the primary source of on-line information for public transportation systems in London. The Heathrow-Kings Cross Underground line runs from the airport through central London and connects to other lines to reach a large number of stations in the Greater London area. The AirBus routes operate from Heathrow and provide direct services to central London with a limited number of stops closer to central London. Bus and Coach Services: National Express and other operators provide coach services from Heathrow airport to a variety of destinations, including Gatwick airport. Hotels: A number of major hotels are located near the airport with a dedicated shuttle service to and from the airport.
