Sardinia (Sardegnia)

The official web site for the autonomous region of Sardinia (Sardegnia) has information (Italian, English, Spanish, French and German) on government and regional topics.  The tourism section has interesting historical, geographical and other information as well as a useful map of the island.

The web sites for the provinces in Sardinia of Cagliari, Nuoro, Oristano and Sassari have information (mostly Italian) about places of interest on the island.  These four provinces conform to national definitions, but Sardinian web sites also refer to Carbonia-Iglesias, El Medio Campidano, L'Ogliastra and Olbia-Tempio as provinces. Carbonia-Iglesias and El Medio Campidano are part of the Cagliari province, L'Ogliastra is part of Nuoro province and Olbia-Tempio is part of Sassari province.

Cities and towns of Sardinia:  Alghero, Arbatax, Arborea, Cagliari, Carbonia, Carloforte, Desulo, Elmas, Ghilarza, Iglesias, La Maddalena, Marrabiu, Nuoro, Olbia, Oristano, Osini, Ozieri, Porto Torres, Portoscuso, Quartu Sant'Elena, Sant'Antioco, Santa Teresa Gallura, Sassari, Tempio Pausania, Terralba, Tortolì, Senorbi, Villaputzu and Villasimius.  The Comunas.it web site has basic information (Italian only) about most of the cities and towns in Sardinia.  This site also provides links to community web sites - sito instituzionale - where applicable.

The Italy Weather and Maps site has a very good map of this region as well as local weather reports.

Airports:  Commercial passenger and/or general aviation services are available at Alghero-Sassari, Cagliari, Tortolì-Arbatax and Olbia airports.

Rail and Bus Services:  Ferrovie della Sardegna operates rail and bus services on the island of Sardinia.

Museums:  The Italian Art and Museums web site has a list of museums in this region.

World Heritage Sites:  Su Nuraxi di Barumini in Medio Campidano/Cagliari province have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  The Italian Association of World Heritage Sites has supplementary information (Italian with some English) and a useful map of Italy to assist with planning travel to these sites.

Parks:  The Portal for Italian Parks has a list of parks in this region.

Route Planning and Maps:  The Libero and the Virgilio Network (TuttoCittà) web sites provide maps on line that can be very helpful for travel planning and locating addresses and businesses and services.  Enter your choice of city in the "Città" field.  Go to the route planning and maps page for links to web sites providing route planning services and maps for planning travel and obtaining driving directions in Italy.
