The region of Emilia-Romagna is in northern Italy, partly within a triangle formed by Milan to the west, Florence to the south and Venice to the northeast. It has a coast line on Adriatic Sea is to the east. Because of the popularity of these large cities many visitors fail to explore this part of Italy that offer many and varied places of interest. Emilia-Romagna's larger cities and towns - Bologna, Ravenna, Faenza, Ferrara, Imola, Modena, Parma and Reggio nell Emilia have many sites of historic, cultural and scenic interest. There are several regional parks, reserves and protected areas offering a variety of outdoor recreational and wildlife viewing opportunities. The Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona, Campigna (National Park of the Casentinesi, Monte Falterona and Campigna Forests) is in the southeastern area of Emilia-Romagna. World Heritage Sites: The Cathedral, the Torre Civica and the Piazza Grande in the city and province of Modena; the Early Christian Monuments of Ravenna and Ferrara, City of the Renaissance, and its Po Delta have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Italian Association of World Heritage Sites has supplementary information (Italian with some English) and a useful map of Italy to assist with planning travel to these sites.
