Vancouver International Airport

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is one of Canada's major international airports with direct flights to many domestic and North American airports and other continents.  The airport's official web site has airline and flight information.

Location: The airport is southwest of downtown Vancouver and on the west side of Richmond.

Time Zones: Vancouver is in the North American Pacific Time Zone. Pacific Standard Time (PST) is eight hours behind Greenwich Mean Time/Universal Coordinated Time (GMT/UTC). The Pacific Time Zone is three hours behind the Eastern Time Zone (Boston, New York, Washington, DC, Atlanta and Miami). Clocks are advanced on the first Sunday of April to go on Pacific Daylight Saving Time (PDT) which is seven hours behind GMT/UTC. Clocks return to standard time on the last Sunday of October.

Current Local Time:  Click here to check the current time in Vancouver.  Canada's Institute for National Measurement Standards has information about time zones in Canada.  The static web clock provides current times

Highway Connections: The airport is west of Provincial Route BC99 (Exit 39/Bridgeport Road) which runs north to downtown Vancouver and south through or adjacent to several communities en route to the US-Canada border.  The highway continues southbound in the United States as Interstate 5 to Seattle, Oregon and California.

Road Conditions: The DriveBC and the TransLink web sites published by the Ministry of Transportation have information on road conditions and transportation systems to assist with travel planning.

Car Rentals: A good selection of car rentals is available on and off the airport

Parking: Short-term and long-term/economy parking facilities are available on the airport grounds.

Web Site: The airport's official web site is an excellent resource for travelers.  yvr.ca/

Ground Transportation: There is a very good selection of taxis, shuttles, limousines and local bus services.  Rail transit is available in Vancouver. BC Ferries operate from Tsawwassen to the south and Horseshoe Bay, north of Vancouver.

BC Transit and Translink operate in British Columbia and the Vancouver area with buses, including routes that serve the airport.

Amtrak's Northwest Route runs south from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA and Portland and Eugene in Oregon.

Hotels, Motels and Restaurants: There is a good selection of hotels, motels and restaurants near the airport in addition to a large selection in Vancouver, Richmond and other adjacent communities. Several hotels and motels provide shuttle service between their facilities and the airport.

Alternate Airports:  Possible alternate airports for ground destinations in the region include Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington and Victoria Airport in British Columbia.

Weather: The Canadian Meteorological Centre web site is an excellent source of information for weather conditions and forecasts for the area of this airport and other parts of Canada.
