Welcome to the Aomori Prefecture The Aomori Prefecture is in the Tohoku Region which is at the northern end of Honshu, Japan's main island, to the north of Tokyo. The Tsugaru Strait separates this prefecture from Hokkaido to the north, but they are connected by the Seikan Tunnel that passes under the strait from Aomori's Tsugaru Peninsula to Fukushima on Hokkaido. The Aomori Guide Book and the Prefectural Tourism Information Network have information in English about tourism in the prefecture. The Shirakami-Sanchi has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Towada-Hachimantai National Park is in the Akita and Aomori prefectures.
