Welcome to the Kagoshima Prefecture Kagoshima Prefecture is on the island and region of Kyushu which is across from the Chugoku Region at the southwestern end of Honshu, Japan's principal island. The Amami Islands to the south of Kagoshima are part of the prefecture. The island chain that continues to the southwest forms the Okinawa prefecture. The Sakurajima Volcano is an active volcano and the Ibusuki Volcanic Field are in the Kagoshima area. The Honkunji Temple is a regional Buddhist temple. Yakushima in the Ōsumi Island group has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Kirishima-Yaku National Park is in the Ōsumi Islands to the south of Kagoshima. Airport: Kagoshima Airport has flights to other domestic airports and to Hong Kong, China and Seoul, South Korea. The airports on Tanegashima and Yakushima Islands have flights to other domestic airports. |
