Welcome to the Kanagawa Prefecture Kanagawa Prefecture is west of Tokyo in the Kanto Region which is centrally located on Honshu, Japan's principal island. The official web site for the prefecture has an English version with information about the prefecture including tourism and transportation. The city of Yokohama is the capital of the prefecture and a major maritime port for ocean-going and domestic shipping. The Yokohama Museum of Art is among the city's important cultural attractions. Kamakura, with its Great Buddha, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area. The Temples, Shrines and other structures of Ancient Kamakura are on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.
