Welcome to the Kanagawa Prefecture

Kanagawa Prefecture is west of Tokyo in the Kanto Region which is centrally located on Honshu, Japan's principal island. The official web site for the prefecture has an English version with information about the prefecture including tourism and transportation.

The city of Yokohama is the capital of the prefecture and a major maritime port for ocean-going and domestic shipping.  The Yokohama Museum of Art is among the city's important cultural attractions.

Kamakura, with its Great Buddha, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area.  The Guide to Kamakura and the History of Kamakura should be reviewed before a trip to this former capital of Japan.  The Temples, Shrines and other structures of Ancient Kamakura are on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.

The web sites for Ebina, Fujisawa City, Hakone and Izu, Yokosuka and Yugawara have information in English that will be helpful to visitors.

The Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park extends from Yamanashi and Kanagawa prefectures to the Izu Islands in the Tokyo prefecture.

Airports:  Tokyo's Haneda (domestic) Airport and Narita International Airport are to the west.
