Welcome to the Wakayama Prefecture Wakayama Prefecture is located in the Kansai Region is the southwestern area of Honshu, Japan's main island. The official web site for the prefecture has an English version with information about the prefecture including tourism and transportation. The Kumano town web site has information in English about its community and places of interest. The Wakayama University has interesting information (multi-lingual) about the Kumano Field Museum on its web site. Kumano is a pilgrimage destination open to all people of all walks of life seeking the healing powers of the Kumano region and hoping to catch a glimpse of the true meaning of life and death. This site also has a very useful map of the rail systems in the Osaka area that includes Kumano. The Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Airports: The Nankishirahama Airport has flights to Tokyo Handeda Airports. The Osaka Kansai International and Itami Airports are convenient to the Wakayama prefecture. |
