Welcome to the Nara Prefecture Nara Prefecture is located in the Kansai Region is the southwestern area of Honshu, Japan's main island. The official web site for the prefecture has an English version with information about the prefecture including tourism and transportation. The Nara city tourism office is an excellent source of information in English about the city and its attractions. The Nara National Museum and the Asuka Historical Museum are places of historical and cultural interest in the prefecture. The Ikaruga, Sakurai and Yamatotakada web sites have information in English about their cities and places of interest. The Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area and the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara have been declared as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. See also the Nara Imperial Palace web site. The Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Yoshino-Kumano National Park is in the Nara and Mie prefectures.
