Welcome to the Gifu Prefecture

The Gifu Prefecture is part of the Chubu Region which is centrally located on the island of Honshu.  It is north of Nagoya.

The official web site for the prefecture has an English version with information about the prefecture including tourism and transportation.

The cities of Kakamigahara, Kaizu and Ogaki have information in English and other languages about places of interest and other topics to assist with travel planning.

The Asahi University has a very interesting article in English on the history of Gifu Castle, one of the prefecture's principal attractions.  The Hida Net and the Hida-Takayama sites have a variety of information in English about the Hida and Takayama areas of the prefecture.  The latter site has very useful maps.

The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama have been declared as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The Hakusan National Park is in the Gifu, Fukui and Ishikawa prefectures.  The Chubu Sangaku National Park extends over the Gifu, Nagano, Toyama and Niigata prefectures.
