Bhopal is the state capital. Madhya Pradesh is centrally located in India. Uttar Pradesh is to the north, Rajasthan and Gujarat are to the west, Maharashtra is to the south, and Chhattisgarh is to the east. The state's web portal provides access to a wide variety of official information including tourism, transportation and history. The State Tourism Development Corporation provides a very good selection of information on its web site to the state's many attractions. The Kanha Tiger Reserve in the Kanha National Park is among the state's most important attractions. The Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi, the Khajuraho Group of Monuments and the Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka have been designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Group of Monuments at Mandu is on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO. Airports: Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur and Khajuraho airports handle domestic flights. They are all within short distances of their respective cities. |
