Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is the capital of the state. Maharashtra is located on the west coast of India where it faces the Arabian Sea. Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Madhya Pradesh are to the north, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh are to the east, and Goa and Karnataka are to the south. Airports: The Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport at Mumbai (Bombay) is one of India's major airports for international flights. It is about 21 miles / 35 km from central Mumbai. The Santa Cruz Domestic Airport, which is used for domestic flights, is about 15 miles / 25 km from central Mumbai. Juhu Airport also serves domestic flights. It is within the city of Mumbai. Aurangabad, Nagpur and Pune airports handle domestic flights. They are close to their respective cities. |
