Welcome to Kerala

Thiruvannathapuram (Trivandrum) is the state capital.  Kerala occupies the western portion of India's southern tip where it forms part of the Malabar Coast.  Karnataka is to the north and Tamil Nadu is to the east.

The official web site for the Government of Kerala has information about tourism in the state as well as culture, history and language.  The site also has useful maps showing the districts within the state with one providing links to district web sites.

The Department of Tourism has a considerable amount of information (English, French and German) about places of interest in the state.

The Kerala Kalamandalam offers an excellent introduction to Indian performing arts and culture.  The Chalachitra Academy promotes film festivals and cinema.

The Periyar Tiger Reserve is one of the state's most important attractions offering wildlife viewing and other recreational opportunities.

The Mattanchery Palace at Ernakulam is on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.  The Western Ghats (sub cluster nomination) with locations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu are on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.
