Welcome to Karnataka

Karnataka was formerly known as Mysore.  Its capital is Bangalore.  Karnataka is in the southwestern area of India with a coastline on the Arabian Sea.  Goa and Maharashtra are to the north, Andhra Pradesh is to the east, and Tamil Nadu and Kerala are to the south. 

The Raj Bhavan (governor's residence) is a building of historic and architectural interest.

The State Tourism Development Corporation has a variety of information and a useful map to help discover places of interest in Karnataka.

The Group of Monuments at Hampi in the Bellary District and the Group of Monuments at Pattadakal in the Bijapur District have been declared as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The Konkan Railway follows a route that runs parallel to the coast from north to south through the state of Maharashta, Goa and Karnataka.

The state of Maharashta is to the north, Andhra Pradesh is to the east, and Tamil Nadu is to the south.  The Arabian Sea is to the west.
