Jammu and Kashmir

The summer capital for the state is at Srinigar; the winter capital is at Jammu.  Jammu and Kashmir is in the northwesternmost area of India.  Punjab and Himachal Pradesh are to the south.  Pakistan surrounds the remainder of the state.

The Raj Bhawan (governor's residences) at Jammu and Srinigar are buildings of historical and architectural interest.  The official web site for the government of Jammu and Kashmir has information about tourism and culture in the state in addition to government affairs.

The official web site for the Tourism Department is an excellent resource with a wide range of information and maps of the state to assist with planning travel to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Buddhist Monastery Complex, known as Alchi Chos-kor, near Leh is on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.  The Hemis Gompa (monastic complex) is on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.

Airport:  Srinigar, Jammu and Leh handle domestic flights.  They are in close proximity to their respective cities.
