Panaji (Panjim) is the capital of the state. Goa is on India's west coast facing the Arabian Sea. The state of Maharashtra is to the north and Karnataka is to the east and south. The site also has a useful map of Goa and its districts that will be helpful in planning travel. The Goa government's web site has information on a variety of official business as well as tourism and tourist destinations and a gallery of photographs of the state. The Department of Tourism has an extensive amount of information about places, events and other topics of interest. This site also has a very useful collection of maps of the state to assist with driving or other travel directions. The Ancestral Goa, the Goa State Museum, the North Goa District and the South Goa District web sites are additional resources that will interest many visitors with an interest in the history, attractions and culture of this state. The Konkan Railway follows a route that runs parallel to the coast to the north of Goa in the Maharashta state and to the south in Karnataka. The Kala Academy of Goa is a good source of information about culture and cultural events in the state. The Churches and Convents of Goa have been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Airport: Goa's Vasco da Gama Airport handles international and domestic flights. It is about 18 miles 30 km from central Goa. |
