Assam

Guwahati (Gauhati) is the state capital.  Assam is in the northeastern corner of India where it adjoins Bhutan on the north and Arunachal Pradesh on the north and east.  Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram are to the south.  Bangladesh is to the south and west.  The northern area of West Bengal is also to the west.

The official web site for the government of Assam provides a good introduction to the state and its people.  The official web site for tourism has information about places of interest in the state, transportation and useful maps to assist with travel planning.

The Kaziranga National Park and the Manas Wildlife Sanctuary have been declared as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.  The River island of Majuli in midstream of Brahmaputra River is on a tentative list for World Heritage Status by UNESCO.

Airports:  Borjharm, Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Silchar and Tezpur (Tejpur)  airports handle domestic flights.  They are all close to their respective towns.
