The official web site for the Hubei government is only in Chinese. The web site for the municipality of Wuhan has Chinese and English versions. The English version has tourism information to assist with travel planning. The Wuhan Tourism Administration web site has an English version that is a useful resource for planning travel to this area. The Ancient Building Complex in the Wudang Mountains has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Great Wall in Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Qinghai provinces has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Shennongjia Nature Reserve and the Tonglushan Ancient Copper Mine Sites have been submitted for World Heritage status to UNESCO. The Yangtze Gorges national scenic spots which start at Baidicheng in Fengjie County, Chongqing, Sichuan Province and end at Nanjin Pass in Yichang, Hubei Province have been submitted for World Heritage status to UNESCO. The Heaven Pit and Ground Seam Scenic Spot, in the extension part of the upward and folded zone of Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan and Guizhou, has been submitted for World Heritage status to UNESCO. One of the more popular tour routes for modern visitors to China follows the Yangzi (Yangtze) River from Shanghai through Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and Sichuan provinces. Shorter cruises take in a stretch of the river between Wuhan in Hubei Province and Chongqing that includes the Three Gorges Dam. Airport: Wuhan Airport, also referred to as Tianhe Airport, is about a 20-minute drive from central Wuhan. The airport offers a good selection of domestic and international flights. The airport's official web site has Chinese and English versions, but the English version has limited information. There are also airports at Changyan, Dangyang and Yichang. |
