The Imperial Palaces of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Beijing and Shenyang, the Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Summer Palace Imperial Garden in Beijing, the Temple of Heaven, an Imperial Sacrificial Altar in Beijing and the Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The Great Wall in Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Qinghai provinces has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Grand Canal, one of China's great engineering accomplishments runs alongside the Great Wall.

Beihai Park, the Yunju Temple Pagoda and its Stone Scriptures and the Beijing Ancient Observatory have been submitted for World Heritage status to UNESCO.
